Successful DACUM Workshop Held Under CORE-ED Academy Project
On Saturday, May 24, 2025, the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) hosted a DACUM (Developing a Curriculum) Workshop as part of the EU-funded project “Transformative Educational Strategies: Fostering Inclusion and Shared Values in Juvenile Justice through Dynamic Correctional Pedagogy and Specialist Professionalization, Empowered by the “LiberateSkills” Correctional Excellence Pact for Skills”.
The workshop gathered 13 participants, including psychologists, social workers, legal professionals, and prison security officers from various institutions working in the juvenile justice system. The workshop was led by Associate professor Dr. Orkun Aydın, MD, the Project Coordinator, alongside Associate professor Dr. Pınar Ünal-Aydın, MD, and Senior Assistant Faruk Obuća. Dr. Aydın opened the event by introducing the CORE-ED Academy project and its significance for enhancing professional standards in juvenile justice. Dr. Ünal-Aydın then presented the key objectives of the DACUM process.
The workshop aimed to define core occupational profiles and training needs for emerging roles in the juvenile justice ecosystem. Through collaborative analysis and structured discussion, the group developed a detailed DACUM chart outlining key duties, specific tasks, and critical enabling competencies required in the field.
The workshop marked a significant step forward in aligning educational pathways with practical demands across correctional and rehabilitative settings. By integrating the expertise of frontline practitioners with academic insight, the event ensured that future training programs will be evidence-based, practice-oriented, and tailored to sectoral needs. The outcomes of this workshop will directly inform the development of modular training curricula and competency frameworks for correctional educators and institutional staff across the Western Balkans.
